Here lies Valleywag, a Silicon Valley gossip and news site launched in 2006 by Gawker Media and decommissioned in 2015. Its editors and writers over the years included Nick Douglas, Nick Denton, Owen Thomas, Ryan Tate, Nitasha Tiku, and Sam Biddle. The site’s archives are maintained here, but no new posts will be published at this page. You can find incisive news and commentary on the personalities and institutions that govern the technology world at Gizmodo.

Good. Biddle took it too a pretty dark, axe to grind place in the most petty ways possible. Even by Gawker standards it was a cess pool of bitterness.

Biddle was dark like Matt Taibbi is dark. Both of them highly articulate, social anarchists. One of them a bit too much in love with himself, the other self-deprecating.

I’m not sure either are social anarchists, but their personal beliefs aside Biddle just had a personal grudge to grind like the nerds gave him a swirly in high school or something. It was basically just complaining just for the sake of hearing his own voice. Taibbi directs that rage and wit to actual problems and injustices.

No good. Valleywag was probably my favorite among the Gawker Media lineup. It was applying that traditional Gawker bite to a target that really needed/deserved it. I trust Gizmodo to present us with the tech news (the latest gadgets, folks!) but harbor sincere doubts that it will do a very good job of dishing us the dirt.

Silicon Valley is full of rich idiots and bullshit ideas.

Silicon Valley needed Walleywag to shame it for funding ‘startups’ like Soylent.

Valleywag was a check on the obtuse nerd decadence and ridiculous bullshit hype.

It wishes it was. I live in SV and despise its rich, arrogant nerds as much as anyone but Valleywag was never more than the angry nerds who didn’t get hired at Facebook or Google. Nitpicking the wrong stuff, negative to the point of boredom. Fuck this blog, good riddance.
