Stanford has been a west coast corporate feeder for decades, but now tech's trendiest degree is also the school's most popular: a full tenth of the school's 7,000 undergrads are declaring in CS.

Stanford President John Hennessy tells the Wall Street Journal that computer science "became the largest major in the university for the first time ever," and the number of students pursuing these coveted degrees is "considerably higher than traditionally they have been, by 50%." Then, with something crossing pride and concern, Hennessy adds that "there's no doubt that the number of students going to humanities is at an all-time low." Who needs to read when there are mobile ad aggregation platforms to put in the cloud?
