Startup Removes Meritocracy Rug
This is either the greatest act of symbolism in Silicon Valley, or a quiet admission by GitHub that its ostentatious display of faux-democracy was misguided. Either way, a smart move, too late.
It's unclear whether online coding repository GitHub still keeps a room decorated like the Oval Office, but this is a good step toward modesty. Employees (and sympathizers) who never bought the meritocracy sham are pleased:
RIP shitty divisive rug. good riddance. props to @defunkt for listening.

We thought ‘meritocracy’ was a neat way to think of open source but now see the problems with it. Words matter. We’re getting a new rug.

Start refreshing eBay if you want a partially-shredded, tone deaf startup office carpet.
