Think of the Children! New Yorkers Fight Against "Internet People" Bar
The Upper West Side will not suffer the scourge of "Internet people." At a community board meeting, locals wanted to deny a nearby wine bar its right to serve alcohol outdoors because it's become a popular spot for online daters.
According to DNAInfo, resident Al Salsano is worried about exposing children to that kind of Wifi-enabled depravity:
"I have seen people say, 'I met you on the Internet,' and you're putting that on the sidewalk?" he said incredulously. "I don't want children walking near 'Internet people' meeting."
The bar, Riposo 72, is located on West 72nd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West. Members of Community Board 7, which approved Riposo's sidewalk cafe in August, tried to calm agitated neighbors:
"Have you ever gone to any of the sidewalk cafes in this neighborhood? Do you find them all rowdy and people staggering out of them all the time?" asked board member George Zeppenfeldt-Cestero.
Resident Chris Horwitz retorted that he wouldn't know because, "I don't go out to meet people I found on the Internet."
North of 59th Street, Tinder daters are the new Glassholes.
