A year ago, Fortune did a survey of VC (venture capital) firms to find out how many "decision makers" were female, and the number was tiny — a mere 4.2 percent. But one year later, things must be better, right? Nope. This year's study shows things are almost exactly the same.

Last year, the total pool of senior partners comprised 542 people, of whom 23 were women. This year the total number was 546, and 24 were women.

In other words, these 92 firms — which managed over $60 billion — had added only one female senior partner in the past year, despite all of the media attention (read: shaming) and discussion at industry conferences.
