Where's Obama? It seems he has lost interest in reforming the economy.
lol it's hard to lose something you never had to begin with
You mean credibility?
What would he do here exactly? SF is the epicenter of a very high growth segment of the economy. When the tech boom slows or if it turns out to be a bubble and pops, you'll see inequality move quickly in the other direction as white collar jobs evaporate and unemployment rises.
Obama knows how to take, he should learn how to give as well (or at least force others to contribute)
It's tough to impossible to prevent hilariously rapid growth in inequality when your city is the epicenter for booming tech markets. Tech workers, venture capital workers, and white collar workers in associated industry move there in droves or existing ones get high pay bumps. I'm not sure what the city can do about that.
Yes, SF is increasingly unequal. Yes, young tech founders make silly claims. But there are some underlying factors in the city that make for the disparity. First of all, the people, weather and laws of SF are friendly to the homeless. That's not true of many places in the US, especially not in combination. You can spend a night on the street and not freeze to death, unlike Minnesota. You can live on the sidewalk and not be shoo-ed along, unlike many cities (Las Vegas buys its mental patients one-way bus tickets and sends them to the Bay in their soiled pyjamas. It's called patient dumping. Thanks, folks!). And healthcare is universal, unlike pretty much everywhere in the US. So sure, there's a lot inequality here, just like Manhattan. But consider the mitigating circumstances.
