Kanye Deepens Silicon Valley Beef: Zappos Sells "Shit Product"
After inviting so many of them to his modest marriage proposal, Kanye West might be rethinking his nerd-chic allegiance to tech: in a recent sit-down with Bret Easton Ellis, West, strangely, slams internet shoe warehouse Zappos and its Vegas-dwelling chief Tony Hsieh.
While talking fashion with Ellis, Kanye makes an abrupt aside:
"I got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos that he's trying to tell me what I need to focus on. Meanwhile, he sells all this shit product to everybody, his whole thing is based off of selling shit product."
So, don't expect the Air Yeezy to surface on Zappos anytime soon. The jab sort of jibes with an anecdote Kanye recounted onstage in Brooklyn last night:
"I got off the phone with this one dude. I guess he used to run a multi-billion dollar company or something like that and he had some advice for me, right. He said, 'I don't approve of your methods in your interviews lately...But he said if he could just give me some advice, he doesn't approve of the way I'm going about things as of late. And when anybody that's supposed to have a lot of money talks to me and they give me advice, I call that free advice, because they're trying to tell me what to do and they ain't cut no check yet."
It's news to us that Hsieh and West were ever on phone call BFF terms—but given the former's allegedly bonkers drinking habits and desperate need to be liked, it doesn't surprise us he'd suspend good judgment and go one-call-too-far with unsolicited advice to Yeezy.
