How is Silicon Valley supposed to stay exceptional when its belief system keeps getting debunked? First empirical evidence proved there's no such thing as a meritocracy. Then they had to add a disclaimer that "change the world" may not mean for the better. Now the shortage of tech workers—a phenomenon used to justify both immigration policies and insane perks—"doesn't really exist."

Tech's biggest players have been clamoring for the federal government to reform their immigration policies, demanding the expansion of the H-1B visa program. But tech's current crop of immigrant workers often find themselves "trapped" by "labor trafficking" rings that are rarely held responsible for abuses.

Remember when Mark Zuckerberg and his friends made a baby, and sent it on a cross-country bus trip to DC? FWD.us was supposed to be a new force in Washington, using new tech smarts to solve old policy impasses. Of course, that was bullshit, but here's a semi-exploitative hackathon, just for fun.

FWD.us, the Facebook-backed lobbying group, is no stranger to unlikely political alliances—in fact, it's reached so far into Washington's conservative corners, some prominent members jumped ship. Teaming up with religious bigots probably won't help.

Zuck has dined with Barack Obama, and now his political arm in Washington is pushing for a man who very recently tried to end Obama's presidency. Politico reports FWD.us, the Silicon Valley lobbying cabal, is dropping $350,000 on pro-Ryan ads.

You know the story: Mark Zuckerberg and his (largely liberal) friends want to hire more foreign engineers, so they're pushing for an immigration bill that needs strong conservative support. They've had to play dirty—and their latest TV ad is maybe the silliest sellout yet.

When last we saw Stanley Druckenmiller, he was predicting the next financial implosion. But the Wall Street winner and GOP-supporter must think America will be around for at least another couple years, because he's joining the FWD.us party.

Congratulations, Zuck & Co. The Senate just approved a massive immigration bill 68-32. That will help tech companies hire more highly-skilled labor at cheaper wages. And all FWD.us had to do was praise oil drilling in the Arctic and grease GOP wheels to get it passed.

Just in regarding that fat immigration reform bill: a preliminary vote in the Senate shows "15 Republicans backing the measure and no Democrats opposing it," a sign of "growing momentum" in DC, says the WSJ. Zuck (and friends), looks like you did it.

Elon Musk had enough of FWD.us and its political doublespeak, but that doesn't mean the PAC is going down. To the contrary, AllThingsD reports it just recruited new media mogul Barry Diller and YouTube co-founder/Delicious ruiner Steven Chen. As long as Zuck can rally more money than he alienates, he should be OK!
