Yahoo's Tumblr Already Shutting Down Some NSFW Sites
When Yahoo's billion dollar Tumblr pickup was nothing more than coquettish tech talk, we wondered if a new owner would start enforcing the site's own rules. You know, shutting down pages about underaged girls and glorified anorexia. It looks like it's starting. Slowly.
It's hardly scientific, but of the 10 example Tumblrs we linked to in May, only four haven't been shut down. Of course, these sites got a decent number of eyeballs (and scrutiny) on them just by virtue of being linked to here. Maybe they were shuttered just because there was a big sign pointing to them. But if that were the case, why are four of them left standing? They all run afoul of Tumblr's self-published terms of service.
What's just as likely is that Yahoo—already expanding the advertising presence—wants to make Tumblr a safer place for companies to throw their names around. If so, expect more shutdowns like these—and who knows, maybe "Young Feet" (exactly what it sounds like!) will be next.
