Salesforce's annual Dreamforce conference—"the biggest cloud computing event of the year"—already mocked Wal-Mart workers protesting Marissa Mayer's board seat and broke a local hospitality union's boycott by hosting it at the Moscone Center. So why not add regressive gender norms to the list?

During an on stage interview with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, who sported customized sneakers designed by the Na'vi, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg quipped that her book had caused a run on laundry detergent by rebranding the chore as foreplay for married people.

According to Business Insider, Sandberg told the crowd:

The data shows that when men are more active partners in their marriages, their wives are happier.

Happier couples have more sex. So I've been telling men all over the country and the world: 'If you want to have sex with your wife, don't buy flowers – do laundry.'

A friend of mine told me that she asked her husband to do a load of laundry.

He turned around and asked her, 'Is this Sheryl Sandberg laundry? Is this foreplay? Because if this is foreplay, I'm in. But if this is just laundry, there's a game on.'

Equal division of labor certainly can be romantic! But quid pro quo chore time sounds about as progressive as telling women "don't ask" where on the startup rocket ship they've been seated.

So much for theme party:

Earlier in the session, Benioff reminded the packed conference hall that "empowering women" was one of this year's Dreamforce themes.
